Colts Face Falcons in German Capital – NFL Week 10

Guten tag, football fans. How are you? Alles klar I hope on this fine morning kickoff to the tenth week coming directly from Germany. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be precise where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (7-2) take on the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on soil in Germany and the first in the capital city.

Pregame Highlights

As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the opening flip. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.

So, the Colts have won the toss and have elected to receive. The Colts' offense will be setting up shortly. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in their last game?

In a similar vein the vocalist performing the Star Spangled Banner has some of the largest shoulder pads you are ever likely to see. The fashion picks are impressive today. The game is about to start after a choral number for the German anthem. Elegant.

First Quarter Gameplay

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

Here we go! And we have an exciting start after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right side then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Still scoreless at 10:51

And the excitement continues as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as the wide receiver cannot reel in a quick pass from the quarterback. On the play before the turnover on downs Jessie Bates put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. Atlanta's defense started strong as they try and snap their string of three losses. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Score Recap

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was wide open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That moment reflects the high draft pick's professional journey to date.

So far, so disappointing but it only gets worse for the Atlanta as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. The Falcons quarterback is sacked and fumbles the football.

A nifty 22-yard run from the Colts receiver sets the running back up to easily run for a touchdown on the next snap. The placekicker skews the extra point wide. Oops.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

The quarterback recovers from the turnover by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. Drake London makes some chunky receptions to put them in the scoring area then the seas part for the running back to run untouched into the end zone through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.

Additional Tenth Week Matchups

Additionally, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (home teams listed first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Houston Texans v Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Miami Dolphins v Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) New York Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)

An exciting lineup. I’m planting my flag on Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the game of the day.
