Flight operations have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial ATC system failure halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended because of an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, considerable delays are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as knock-on effects are cleared.
