Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart
The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate fitting to voice opinions against the Trump administration, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and deepen rifts across the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains the Actress
In a recent interview, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on electoral choices.”
She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has admitted freely about backing Republican and Democratic contenders over the years. Brought up by a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election then moving to the Democrats and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.
Earlier Remarks
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Kamala Harris, “because I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the minimal impact public figures have over the public choices was underscored by his election win.
“Another four years feels different,” commented she about his administration. “Since he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for his first term. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
Jennifer Lawrence is discussing the drama, the filmmaker’s drama in which she stars as a new mother who struggles with her mental health in a remote area. During a press conference for the project in the film festival, Lawrence commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of U.S. political debates currently and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation today. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”
She sought to redirect anger about the situation to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by numerous entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her work in Die, My Love. While Ramsay has rejected the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, Lawrence said that she did relate to elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, soon after shooting ended.
“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was receiving counseling, but I got on a medication called Zurzuvae and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
The actor also spoke regarding the liberating necessity of filming without clothes in the project while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Truly, I do have moments where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
