The relatives of young people lost after a tragic fire at a venue in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an painful period of uncertainty for official news and appealing for any details about their loved ones online.

The blaze devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated video depict the roof structure igniting as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Officials have warned that it could take considerable time to identify the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of 40 people and injured another over a hundred.
