The batsman has played 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia look for a answer to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Returns and Injury Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a back injury by the time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
